About the event

Based on the overwhelming positive feedback from last year's ride to NYC, the New Haven Bicycling Club is proud to announce we're doing it again! This year's ride is called “3 Bridges to NYC” and features a route that takes riders along the Long Island sound through New Haven County, then heads north to the Sikorsky Bridge to cross into Fairfield County. From there,  riders can expect rolling hills through the picturesque countryside as  they head west towards the New York state border. Once over the border, riders will hop onto the North County Trailway and continue on it until Tarrytown, NY where they will take the Mario Cuomo Bridge (formerly the Tappan Zee). Riders will continue south along the Hudson River crossing into NJ where they will ride along River Rd in Palisades Park before crossing the George Washington bridge into NYC. The ride will end in the north end of Central Park. Riders still feeling strong are more than welcome to complete a lap around central park before catching the train back to New Haven.

This ride is for New Haven Bicycling Club members - specifically those members who are comfortable with long distance rides, group riding (including effective pace-lining), riding on roads that will include >40mph speed limits and rumble strips, as well as navigating traffic patterns of small towns and NYC.

THE ROUTE CAN BE FOUND HERE: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/40999677

If you have not previously completed a century ride or rides with significant elevation gain, this ride might be a bit too much for you. The average pace is expected to be ~16mph with a coffee stop in the morning (~40-50mi) and a lunch stop in the early afternoon (~70-80mi).

The ride will leave promptly at 8AM from P&M. Please arrive at 7:30am for a ride briefing,  snack gathering (some snacks will be provided by NHBC),  and to give yourself plenty of time to triple check that you have everything you need (extra tube / pump, water bottles, etc). It’s expected that riders will arrive in Central park between 4-5PM. Riders will be responsible for their own transportation home from NYC - most folks will catch the Metro North train out of the Harlem / 125th street station back to New Haven.
